Joshua Cohen founded Fat Pencil Studio in 2004, with the idea that the world could use a little more perspective. With degrees in Civil Engineering and Architectural Design, plus years of practical experience working in the transportation, energy, and construction industries, Joshua brings a wealth of technical knowledge to his 3d modeling work. The company name “Fat Pencil” refers to the traditional drawing instrument used by architects during the early stages of conceptual design—when it’s important to get a range of ideas on paper quickly, and avoid getting bogged down by complex details. SketchUp provides a digital equivalent of this approach, and has become an essential tool for Fat Pencil Studio. Joshua enjoys demonstrating SketchUp at local elementary schools, offers frequent seminars on visual communication, and founded the Portland SketchUp Meetup for 3d modeling hobbyists and professionals.
