We recently had a chance to talk to Ed Klock, a principal at PBA Architects in Wichita, regarding how SketchUp was providing value for him and his office
'We've been really thrilled with SketchUp.' he reported, providing the project shown here as an example. 'Our client's existing building was a very large, modern structure that was difficult to efficiently communicate with hand drawings. Around the time the project started, Alan Milbrandt, our CEO, read about SketchUp in Architectural Record. He downloaded it, started playing with it, and quickly started feeling comfortable with it, so we decided to put it to the test on an actual project.'
'SketchUp allowed us to immediately provide the clients with a rich variety of views and variations. The print-outs often literally covered their conference room tables. Also, we used SketchUp's 'squiggly' rendering capabilities right from the beginning, as they helped loosen up the output."
"This helped the clients feel free to comment on things they didn't like, move things around, etc. In fact, they were so delighted that they commissioned us to do a more detailed model and animation in 3D Studio VIZ, which was built using the SketchUp model as a reference.'
'The un-CAD-like learning curve and the user-friendliness have got to be the best part of the software. I'm not experienced at CAD, but yet was still able to do 70-80% of the design work for this project comfortably from my home.'
